After the success of Ryu the Argonian, I set out to try more techniques for cosplay. My goal was to try as many new things as possible and see what I could create with it. Monster Hunter: World had just become available, and with my deep love for the franchise, I knew I had to do it justice. There were far too many armor sets to choose from, so I settled upon designing my original take from the game. I chose to remaster the Odogaron Alpha set, and Monster Hunter Minerva is what resulted.
WHAT'S IT MADE OF?
Before I understood the world of EVA foam, I utilized craft foam from my local hobby store to create all of Minerva's armor pieces. A 4-way stretch spandex was chosen for the under-suit along with straps of pleather to add accents. Everything is held on with velcro... including the ropes on the arm, waist, and back!

Kinsect Defendikus utilized craft foam for his body, just like the armor parts, with Plastazote from Coscom Cosplay Supplies allowing light to shine through his abdomen & thorax.
WHAT TECHNIQUES WERE USED?
Due to the extravagant amount of materials used in this cosplay, I utilized numerous amounts of techniques to get it all done. I used a rotary tool to shape & texture all of the foam armor parts, sculpted others with clay, stitched together the fabric parts, and even ventured into electronics for the very first time. Not only did I learn circuit & soldering techniques, I also taught myself to write digital code with this project.
WHAT KIND OF SPECIAL EFFECTS?
This armor set was a challenge set by myself to see how many new techniques I could implement & have it work. I expanded beyond the realm of foam & fabric and dipped into special effects. Minerva's removeable half-mask features UV lenses & paint, activated externally by a simple push of a button. Along with this are custom-fit eyeteeth, wound makeup, prosthetics, and a retractable arm blade.

Kinsect Defendikus has his own set of coded LEDs that flash in according to how he would in-game.
